Graz University of Technology (Technische Universität Graz, TUG) is represented by the Institute of Information Security (ISEC, formerly called IAIK). ISEC's research is directed towards several applied as well as theoretical fields like computer networking, embedded systems, system-on-chip design, formal verification, computer security, information security, E-Government and eIDs, cryptography and cryptanalysis. TUG’s work in LICORICE concerns both the topics of privacy-aspects in identity management as well as secure computation on private data (e.g., MPC and Federated Learning).
Role in LICORICE'S PROJECT

TUG has been involved and is involved in several national and EU-wide projects in the context of eGovernment (eIDAS, EU Wallet), both in advisory function as well as implementing various components (digital signatures, trust infrastructure, eID). Additionally, TUG is active in academic research and regularly publishes papers in peer-reviewed conferences about digital security, identity and privacy. TUG’s digital identity and privacy research directly benefits LICORICE's goal of providing privacy features for electronic identity wallets. In particular, TUG will conduct research about privacy-preserving identifiers (e.g., pseudonyms) for the EU Digital Identity wallet framework. Additionally, TUG will provide privacy-mechanisms in the form of components that will be used by other LICORICE partners to enhance their components and products. Furthermore, TUG's research around privacy-preserving and -enhancing cryptography contributes to LICORICE's efforts in Secure Multi-Party Computation and Federated Learning.
